A murky red moon will appear on the night sky on Saturday to early Sunday

New Delhi: On Saturday around midnight to early Sunday, earth will witness a partial lunar eclipse. In a partial lunar eclipse, the moon appears murky red when it comes in the shadow of earth.

At 2353 (IST) on Saturday, moon will enter the lighter shadow (penumbra) of the earth and the eclipse will begin at 0106 (IST) on Sunday.

The eclipse will be at its maximum (middle) at 02:40 IST on Sunday when a murky red moon will appear on the night sky and could be viewed with the naked eye.

The eclipse will end at 0415 IST.

Almost all parts of the world, except the North American region, will be able to witness the phenomenon.

The Met Department predicts a cloudy sky on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and visibility will be low.

Light rain spells are likely, says Deputy Director General Indian Meteorological Department (Mumbai), C V V Bhadram.
