Pakistan slams India over denial of visa to envoy, calls it 'unacceptable'
The Pakistani authorities have now taken up the issue with India saying this was 'unacceptable' and asserted that this was first India posting for the official concerned and India had no reason to deny him visa.

New Delhi: Hitting out at India for denying visa to its foreign ministry official earlier this week, Pakistan has called the move 'unprecedented' and 'unacceptable'. It has also refused to withdraw the application filed on behalf of the official. Pakistan has claimed that the Indian government needs to give adequate reasons for denying a visa to the government official.

The incident comes soon after two Yoga teachers from India were denied visa to Pakistan in May. However, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs say that the denial has nothing to do with the treatment meted out to the Indian Yoga teachers.

In a decision that was termed by Pakistan as "absolutely absurd", India had rejected visa to their foreign ministry official for a posting in the High Commission on "concerns" over his credentials. It is learnt that Indian authorities have rejected the visa after there were "concerns" expressed by officials over the posting of the Pakistan Foreign ministry official, whose identity and designation have not been revealed by either side.

Refusing to withdraw the visa application filed on behalf of the official, Pakistan High Commission sources said the move is "against the diplomatic norms". Pakistan wanted to post the official at its high commission in Delhi and had applied for a diplomatic visa for him.

The Pakistani authorities have now taken up the issue with India saying that India had no reason to deny him the visa. However, officials maintain that there is no need for India to cite the reason for visa rejection.
