Karachi: A senior police officer and two of his subordinates have been arrested in interior Sindh after being accused of raping two teenage sisters at a police station. The alleged incident took place at a police station in Khimbra in Ghotki district. The mother of the sisters, aged 18 and 16, alleged that Station House Officer(SHO) Abdullah Awan and three policemen had come to her house on Friday night and taken away the two girls after accusing them of being thieves.
The mother said that the SHO and the three policemen then gangraped the two girls over a period of 24 hours in the police station and after releasing them on Sunday threatened them with dire consequences if they told anyone about the incident. "It is a most unfortunate incident but initial medical examinations indicate the girls have been sexually violated," Abdullah Salam Sheikh, the district police officer of Ghotki, told PTI.
"We have put the SHO and two of the policemen under arrest while one is absconding and a case has been filed against them," he said. Disturbing cases of sexual assault and violations of young girls and even infants are now being reported regularly on Pakistani channels after a 15-year-old schoolgirl was raped and killed by her relatives in Karachi last month and her body thrown near a beach.
Police have since arrested the culprits in that case, but on Friday another case was reported where a 16-year-old college student was dumped after she was raped by a rickshaw driver and his accomplice.
