THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has ordered the City Corporation to demolish the unauthorised structure posing threat to the lives of the destitute children of the adoption centre of Kerala State Child Welfare Council. In an order issued the other day, which has been marked as ‘very urgent’, Local Self-Government deputy secretary Leelamani directed the Corporation secretary to demolish the structure immediately and to report the same. Express had on November 21 reported that the Council building, where around 60 destitute children are housed, was facing imminent collapse. The building was adjudged dangerous in 2010 when the Council decided to go in for a construction of a fourth floor without availing of statutory clearances on structural strength. The City Corporation had on October 12 this year ordered the Council to demolish the structure within 15 days as it lacked structural stability, mandatory fire escape stairs and an NOC by the Fire and Rescue Services Department. However, the Council did not act accordingly and no follow-up action was taken by the Corporation either.
