WARANGAL: It appears the server in down in the home district of minister for information technology Ponnala Laxmaiah as entrepreneurs have backed out after showing initial interest. When Laxmaiah, an aeronautical engineer, became the IT minister, people thought the district would lead the Tier II centres of the state in IT development. But the land allotted to IT companies remained unoccupied and the companies are not showing any interest. Not a single IT company has logged in to the district and the minister and officials hardly show any interest to attract investments. One company did come and recruited 60 engineering graduates. It was shut down following complaints that it collected money from them. Warangal has rail link to the North and the South and is situated only 140 km from the capital.A fourlane national highway is under construction. The town has the prestigious NIT-Waragal and 20 engineering colleges. In 2007, APIIC allocated 14.5 acres for an IT SEZ. Raheja, Linex and Phtech India, Takshsila Solutions and other IT companies have come forward. The state has allotted five acres each to Raheja and Takshasila.Raheja backed out and asked for a refund of the amount it paid for the land, while the other company did not take up any activity. With good infrastructure facilities and educational institutions and the possibility of renovating Mamunuru airport, the district has all the ingredients to attract IT investments, D Kiran kumar, in-charge of Software Technology Park, India, said. Presently, a BPO centre is being run from Talla Padmavathi College by Onion Health Care, he said. Takshasila is conducting training classes, he said.
