Mangalore: A former journalist at the Mangalore plane crash site says he saw at least 10 people, including a child, being taken to hospitals.

S Nandagopal, a former newspaper journalist, told IBNLive on the phone from Mangalore that a four-year child had been taken to hospital. He identified two other crash survivors as Omar Farooque, 26, and Sabrina Haq, 23, who were in a critical condition at the A J Hospital .

Nandagopal said rescue operations had gathered pace as the rain had stopped. Mangalore residents had joined the police and Home Guards in helping at the crash site.

Rescue workers faced some trouble because of the huge numbers of onlookers at the crash site, said Nandagopal, an independent consultant on tribal welfare.
