KOCHI: The police on Wednesday arrested a person from Kochi airport in connection with the lynching of Shaheed Bava, 27, of Kodiyathur. Abdu Fiyas, 25, the fourth accused in the case, was returning from Dubai. The immigration officials detained him on the basis of a lookout notice issued by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Jossy Cherian, Assistant Commissioner, control room, Kozhikode. Later, he was handed over to police officials from Kozhikode.According to Jossy Cherian, Fiyas was the key accused in the case as the postmortem reports stated that Fiyas’ blow on Sayeed Bava’s head led to his death. Fiyas had flown to Dubai after the assault. The police have so far arrested 13 persons in this case. Two persons are still absconding. A case has been charged against Fiyas under IPC section 302 (murder) and he was produced before Thamarassery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Wednesday. The court remanded him to judicial custody.Shaheed Bava died in a private hospital after he was brutally beaten up with sticks by locals at Mukkom early this month. He was bashed up for allegedly having an affair with a married woman.
