New Delhi: The cash-strapped SpiceJet has been asked by the Oil Ministry to submit a 10-day plan for revival of the airline, said sources on Wednesday. In a meeting held on Tuesday, the ministry had agreed to grant interim relief to SpiceJet and said that they can pay some money right now but a concrete plan is required.
The airline will also have to pay some token amount to oil companies.
"We are helping as we don't want passengers to face problems. Mass cancellations is cause for worry for the ministry," the Oil Ministry said.
Oil companies on Wednesday morning had said that the airline will get fuel only on immediate payments.
SpiceJet used to buy about Rs 5.5 crore worth of fuel daily from Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) but six months back it shifted some purchases to Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and Reliance Industries.
In wake of mass cancellations, SpiceJet Chief Operating Officer Sanjiv Kapoor has said that the flights will resume operations by 4 PM on Wednesday.
