MALAPPURAM: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the seizure of fake Indian currency notes from the Karipur International Airport on August 16, 2008. Organisational Crime Wing (OCW) of the state Crime Branch in Malappuram handed over the case files to the NIA as the case was found to have links with Pakistan. “We have just received the case report from OCW. The case has international links, but we cannot say anything more about the investigation right now,” NIA DySP Sreenivasa Rao told ‘Express’. NIA has also found links with various counterfeit note cases registered in different parts of Kerala. They might extend the investigation to other similar cases if necessary.The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized fake currencies to the tune of `72,51,000 from Mohamed Alshab who arrived at the Karipur International Airport from Ras Al Khaimah.
