CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday unveiled a new three-storey building for the 98-year-old Tamil Nadu Medical Council (MCT) on Poonamallee High Road at Arumbakkam through video-conferencing at the Secretariat. The building has been constructed at a cost of `7.50 crore on 4,500 sq.ft of land, considering the ever increasing number of doctors from various parts of TN and Puducherry thronging the office for registeration.The MCT was started in 1914 and Surgeon General WB Bannerman was the first doctor, who registered himself as a member of the council and served as its first president. Between 1914 and 1956, doctors from TN, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Malabar and Puducherry registered their names and degrees with the MCT. Health Minister Dr VS Vijay and top officials of the State government were present on the occasion.
