THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (Jacob) chairman Johny Nelloor had send a legal notice to Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and CPM Thiruvunanthapuram district secretary Kadakampally Surendran demanding withdrawal of their statements that UDF leaders had given money to R Selvaraj to quit the CPM ahead of the Piravom by-poll. In the notice, Johny Nelloor stated that he would go ahead with legal proceedings unless the two leaders are not ready to withdraw their statement. The notice also seeks a compensation of Rs 50 crore unless the statements are withdrawn. In a major setback to the CPM and the LDF, Selvaraj, who represented the Neyyattinkara constituency, had quit the post of MLA last Friday. CPM leaders had alleged that Selvaraj’s resignation had the backing of the UDF and it was orchestrated by P C George on behalf of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy ahead of the Piravom bypoll. Selvaraj had also resigned his membership of the CPM district committee alleging that the party had sidelined him.
