The toll in the Maoist attack targeting security personnel guarding a construction site in Aurangabad district has risen to six. The dead included three jawans of Special Auxillary Police (SAP), two private security guards and the driver of a bus in which police reinforcement was being moved to the spot from Koch in Gaya district, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) S K Bhardwaj said on Thursday.
The attack took place Wednesday night. While the SAP jawans and the security guards died in the gunfight, the driver was killed in a landmine blast.Three others were injured, a senior police official said.
The rebels looted 29 advanced weapons, including Insas, SLR and AK47 rifles and over 33 rounds of ammunition from the spot. There were 30 SAP jawans guarding the camp office of the construction company which was building a culvert.
The 16 SAP jawans whose fate was not known till late on Wednesday night had returned to the office and no SAP personnel was missing, Bharadwaj said. The Maoists arrived at the site of a culvert being built by the private construction company and began indiscriminate firing. Although the SAP jawans got no time to react, they fired around 50 rounds. State police chief Abhyanand visited Aurangabad late on Wednesday night.
