THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘The painting of a small boy in a drought-prone area carrying water in his hand’, this painting will catch the attention of anyone who visits the exhibition ‘Ente Nadu’, which began on Thursday at the Russian Cultural Centre. This painting which tells the problems created by Global Warming has been drawn by a fourth standard student at Holy Angels’ Convent, Sera Mariam Binny. Little Sera likes to draw than to study, and she has drawn around 250 pictures till date. "I like to draw using crayons and I use sketch pens only to draw the margins,’’ these are some of her little interests. The exhibition mainly includes the picture she has drawn with nature as the theme, namely forests, rivers and beaches. The exhibition also has pictures of cartoon characters and Onam celebrations. When asked about the picture of a girl looking out through a window, she said "Oh! That’s me.’’ But her favourite is that of a woman at a beach which she drew recently. ‘’The idea of that picture struck me after I visited Kovalam,’’ said Sera. For each painting, she has got funny but serious explanations. "I tried to draw Donald Duck, but when I was drawing it did not look like Donald so I decided to draw a frock and I made a new character of my interest.’’The paintings on Onam celebration depict floral carpets, swings and people dressed in traditional wear. Sera started to draw when she was three years old and she won her first prize for painting at the same age. "We noticed her interest in painting when she won prize for the first competition she attended and then we sent her for drawing classes. This is the first exhibition of her paintings ,’’ said Rani Gerome, Sera’s mother. The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by Transport Minister V S Sivakumar. The exhibition is on till Saturday.
