BANGALORE: Even as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is waiting for the safety certificate from the Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS), serious efforts are being made by the State and Union Governments to inaugurate the much-awaited Bangalore Metro on September 26.The Union Urban Development Ministry in consultation with the State Government has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressing its willingness to inaugurate Bangalore Metro on Reach One from Byappanahalli to M G Road on September 26.According to sources, the letter had gone from Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and if the PM agreed for the date suggested to him, then Bangalore Metro will start chugging from September 26.But for the safety certificate from the CRS, the Bangalore Metro to be called as ‘Namma Metro’ is ready for commercial operations. The CRS team had recently conducted safety checks on Reach One and listed out several shortcomings mainly pertaining to working procedures besides asking the BMRCL to submit some additional documents. On its part the BMRCL is working overtime to sort out the shortcomings pointed out by the CRS and get the certificate as early as possible. The CRS will give clearance once the BMRCL submits the compliance report.Meanwhile, the Railway Board is said to have issued a sanction letter to the BMRCL for opening of the lines of the project on Tuesday. When asked about this and the clearance from the CRS, Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa said that the Railways had given all clearances for the Bangalore Metro rail project. “From our side we have done everything. As far as CRS clearance is concerned, it is between the BMRCL and the CRS,” he added.
