THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and deputy leader of Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday visited M V Jayarajan undergoing jail term in the contempt of court case.Pinarayi told mediapersons that  the CPM and pro-left organisations would stage a demonstration in front of the Kerala High Court on Monday protesting against the verdict against Jayarajan.Criticising the alleged remark in the High Court judgment that Jayarajan was a mere worm, Pinarayi asked how could a court call him a worm. He said that calling people who are supreme in a democratic country as ‘worms’ is ridiculing democracy itself. He also added that the CPM is not against judiciary but any move to suppress people’s protest would be strongly dealt with.Pinarayi’s attack was based on the remarks on page 112 of the verdict. In it the court said, “Jayarajan herein is only a worm, who does not come anywhere near those legal luminaries so as to start a campaign highlighting the pitfalls of the judiciary and to correct them”. The High Court had found Jayarajan guilty of contempt of court and sent him to jail for six months’ simple imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000. The High Court had initiated suo motu contempt of court proceedings against him after he made comments against judges for banning roadside meetings during a public speech in Kannur.
