A 33-year-old chartered accountant from Jharkhand died by suicide in his rented flat in Mumbai after going live on Facebook on Tuesday. In his live stream, he accused his fiancée and her parents of harassment.
Friends and viewers who watched his concerning video alerted the police, but by the time they arrived at his home, he had already passed away.
The chartered accountant has been identified as Sandeep Paswan, who had been living in Govandi, Mumbai, since 2022.
Initially, the police recorded his death as accidental. However, they are now looking into possible charges of encouraging suicide against his fiancée, Sapna, and her family after reviewing the Facebook Live video.
Sandeep went live on Facebook around 7 AM on Tuesday, claiming that his fiancée and her family assaulted him and pushed him to take his own life. “They told me, ‘Why are you still alive? Just die, or we will kill you. They have humiliated me and ruined my life,'” he said in the video, as per The Times Of India report.
According to the police, Sandeep met Sapna in 2018 and by 2021 they were engaged. During their relationship, Sapna had taken Rs 12.5 lakh from Sandeep to buy a flat. However, later on, her family opposed their marriage, which prompted Sandeep to request the return of his money.
Sapna’s family kept telling Sandeep that they would return the money he had given her. However, when he went to Mumbai to collect the money, they filed a stalking complaint against him in 2023.
In the live stream, Sandeep said he had asked the police for help with the financial dispute, but felt that his requests were ignored, which pushed him to go to court. He also mentioned that he had taken legal action against Sapna and her family. Showing bruises on his body, he claimed that her family had physically abused him.
