When Sanjay Dutt walked out of jail in 1993 songs from his films 'Sadak' and 'Sajan' were topping the charts.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt had been jailed for 14 days in 1993 in connection with the Mumbai serial bomb blasts. At that time Sanjay Dutt thought that his life had come to an end. In the jail Dutt used to sit quietly near the window and watch the outside world while brooding over his fate.

His first movie Rocky was released in 1981 and just before the release his mother and actress Nargis Dutt died, which came as a huge shock to him. But the 14 days in jail changed Dutt's life forever as it was a real experience and not the reel one.

Later in an interview Dutt shared his ordeal in jail. "I was very disappointed when I didn't get bailed. I had broken down and thought that I will never come out of jail."

Perhaps loneliness was the reason why Sanjay Dutt got married thrice. But Dutt was completely shattered when he was in jail far away from the protective company of his father Sunil Dutt. He said in the interview that his stint in the jail taught him the importance of freedom.

He had also revealed that a man used serve him tea in the jail. "I saw him every day and realised that he led a free life. I used to imagine that I was also a man delivering tea, exploring the world and enjoying the freedom," he said.

Dutt also said that dinner was served at 5.30 pm in the jail and at 6 pm the barrack gates were closed. Later, prisoners used to sing film songs to fight loneliness and many times the song were from his films which he enjoyed.

He said that he used to believe in god but did not worship regularly or observe the rituals. However, while he was in jail he started to pray and read Shiv Chalisa and Hanuman Chalisa, which he still does. He also began to observe fasts on Monday and Saturday, and goes to a Hanuman temple regularly.

He felt a lot stronger and believed that there was someone to protect him. Dutt also added that his mother would have been very upset if she had known about his brush with the law.

And when he finally walked out of jail in 1993 songs from his films 'Sadak' and 'Sajan' were topping the charts and soon dialogues of another film 'Khalnayak' became very famous.
