Monsoon session in Chhattisgarh Assembly came to an abrupt end on Wednesday, two days ahead of schedule, after members continued to create ruckus and trade charges over the Maoist attack, in which top Congressmen were killed.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi raised the issue and said a vast portion of statements by opposition members on the first day of the current session, were expunged by the Speaker. This was never witnessed before, he alleged. Jogi further said whatever feelings his partymen had expressed while paying tribute to the slain leaders in the House should be made public.

Stepping up the attack, Congress MLA Dharamjeet Singh claimed no indecent or unparliamentary words were used in statements and the state government is trying to impose "media censorship". Countering the charges, state Parliamentary Affairs minister Brijmohan Agrawal said the opposition should not politicise martyrdom of their leaders.

It is for the Speaker to decide whether words ought to be expunged or not. There may be instances where a particular word is not unparliamentary but the context in which it has been said can be objectionable, he said.

As Opposition stalled proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes. However, protests continued inside the House with the opposition demanding resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh while holding his government responsible for the Darbha naxal attack on May 25 in Bastar.
