Mohanlal will recreate on celluloid the emotional angst of the epic character Bheeman in 'Randamoozham'.

Kochi: Who would don the role of Bheeman? That was the question on every film enthusiasts’ mind when veteran director Hariharan and legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair set out to recreate on celluloid the emotional angst of the epic character Bheeman in the latter’s novel ‘Randamoozham’.

Ending all speculation, Hariharan has confirmed to Express that the prestigious role will be handled by none other than Mohanlal. "We have decided to cast Mohanlal in the role of Bheeman. We think that his physical appearance and proven performance record will be the major strengths while enacting Bheeman, the central character of the movie," Hariharan said.

The movie, which will be based on the epic novel that won MT the Jananpith Award, is slated to be among the most prestigious projects in Malayalam. What with plans afoot to rope in some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including AR Rahman, on the production side, MT is expected to complete the script by this month-end.

Hariharan said no decision has yet been taken regarding who will play other characters in the movie. "There are other major characters including Karnan, Krishnan, Yudhishtiran, Arjunan, Duryodhanan, Panchali and Kunthi. We are waiting for MT to complete the script; then we will take it forward one step at a time. Personally, I do not believe in star power. We are simply looking for the right actors who are most suited for each role."

"Gokulam Gopalan, under the banner of Sree Gokulam Productions, will produce the movie," Hariharan said.

The director, who has teamed up with MT to create classics like 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha' and 'Pazhassiraja', said the main aim of the production team was to make 'Randamoozham' a benchmark movie in the history of Indian cinema.

"The novel is a classic and we aim to do justice to MT’s genius. It will be one of the costliest productions ever in Indian cinema. Once the script is completed, we will go for a location hunt in North India. As of now, we are planning to complete the movie by mid-2013," the director said.

A source close to the production house said they are trying to woo actors like Mammootty, Kamal Hassan and Salman Khan to this project. There is a buzz in the industry that Mammootty will enact the role of Karnan in the movie.
