They also suspect that the gang may have been instructed to eliminate the target also believed to be a man with a tonsured head, leading to the incident. The groups, led by Devadoss and Shakthivel in the area, were at loggerheads and the latter decided to eliminate the former. On Saturday night, both Jagadeesan (27) and Duraisamy, working as head-loaders near Villianur, were returning home after the day’s work. They stopped off at an arrack shop en-route.It is believed that a group of persons, allegedly loyal to Shakthivel, hiding near Perungalur road, mistook Jagadeesan for Devadoss and hurled country-made bombs at them. Jagadeesan blocked the bomb with his hand. The group pounced on them, hacked them and fled.Locals who heard their cries for help, rushed them to the government general hospital where Jagadeesan was declared brought dead.SP Bairavasamy said the attack was case of mistaken identity and the culprit would be nabbed soon. He added that Jagadeesan and Duraisamy were not involved in any crime so far.Meanwhile, the villagers staged a road blockade at Karikkalampakkam on Sunday demanding adequate solatium to the family of Jagadeesan. Traffic to Villippuram was disrupted for nearly two hours.A baby boy was born to Jagadeesan just a few days ago, prompting him to tonsure his head.
