“Fireworks all around, feels like an early Eid here. Better team took the day. Congratulations team #Pakistan” tweeted the Kashmiri separatist leader

New Delhi: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stoked controversy on Monday by congratulating Pakistan on their victory over India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

“Fireworks all around, feels like an early Eid here. Better team took the day. Congratulations team #Pakistan,” tweeted the Kashmiri separatist leader.

The tweet did not go down well with former Indian opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir, who retorted asking Mirwaiz to move to Pakistan.

“A suggestion @MirwaizKashmir why don't u cross the border? U will get better fireworks (Chinese?), Eid celebs there.I can help u wid packing,” tweeted the southpaw.

Earlier, on Thursday, Mirwaiz courted controversy after he congratulated the Pakistan cricket team for beating England in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.

“As we were finishing taraweeh, could hear the fire crackers bursting, well played team #Paksitan. Best of luck for the finals!” tweeted the separatist leader.

Mirwaiz, 44, is a separatist leader as the chairman of the Awami Action Committee, one of the two key factions of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
