Anmol Lama, a resident of Mechpara tea garden– a village in West Bengal – decided to become a doctor after seeing the disastrous situation of his area during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is the son of a family of tea plantation workers from Mechpara. Anmol was studying in class 10 at the time of pandemic. At that time, his grandmother fell ill. There were restrictions, but Anmol rushed to different places to treat his grandmother properly. Due to the delay in treatment, his grandmother became paralysed. She is currently bedridden. At that time, Anmol thought that if he had been a doctor, his grandmother would not have had to endure so much pain. From that point on, Anmol was keen to become a doctor. Then he started studying science and cracked NEET. Anmol said, “There were many problems while preparing for NEET in Mechpara Tea Garden. Since there are no tuition centres, one has to rely on online tuition. Then there is the network problem. But I managed to do it in the first attempt.” The residents of Mechpara are proud of the success of Anmol Lama, the son of a working-class family. They believe that Anmol will become a god for Mechpara in future.

Similarly, Mahadev Kumar, a resident of Pathargama block of Godda in Jharkhand, has brought laurels to his family and village. Despite financial problems, he secured 386 rank in NEET. According to Local18, Kumar has been admitted to Medini Rai Medical College in Palamu. When he arrived in his hometown, the entire village came to congratulate him. His father, Kishan Yadav, sells milk by roaming around the city and villages. His mother passed away 16 years ago. After this, his father worked hard to provide him with a good education. Mahadev prepared for NEET while staying at home. He also prepared for the exam while staying in Patna for a few months. He used to study for 14 to 16 hours a day. Along with studying at home, he also used to help his father in his work.
