New Delhi: The Centre on Monday assured stern action in the alleged killing of a Congolese national in Delhi on May 20 by some locals.
MEA officials met the family members of 23-year-old Congolese national Masonda Ketada Oliver and assured them all help.
Oliver was a French teacher at a private institute. He was beaten to death in Vasant Kunj area of South Delhi following a brawl over hiring of an autorickshaw.
His family members were also assured that India would bear all expenses to dispatch his mortal remains to Congo. The ministry also assured fast trial and prosecution of the accused.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh, Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma and other top officials held a meeting with senior members of the villages in Chhatarpur in Delhi.
The main agenda of the meeting was to sensitize the locals about the issue, a senior police official said.
Police patrolling has been increased in Mehrauli and Chhatarpur areas to ensure that no such untoward incidents take place.
The police have also granted permission for African students' protests but have said they won't be allowed to take out a march.
