Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsMedical Education Minister S A Ramdas said on Sunday that the Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted permanent affiliation status to all the six government medical colleges.At a function organised to inaugurate Atalji Janata Bazar Generic Drugs Counter and cancer therapy unit at Sri Chamarajendra Government Hospital here, he said that it has been decided to increase the intake from 100 to 150 students and   they are planning to begin post graduation courses from the next academic year, he added.He said that the Union Health Ministry has decided to release Rs 1,274 crore to improve the facilities and complete the ongoing work in all the government medical colleges in the state. Both state and the Centre would release the same under the ratio of  25:75, he added. It has also been decided to set up 20-bed Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) for patients suffering from malnutrition on the government hospital premises, he said. Underlining the importance of generic drugs centre, the Minister said that the patients will get branded medicines of 14 different drug companies at affordable rates.He said that the government will spend Rs 1.50 lakh for the treatment of cancer patients. Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, who was also present at the function, said that government should speed up the works attached to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences(HIMS) at the earliest.Former minister H D Revanna urged the minister to set up Atalji Janata Bazar generic drug counter and cardiac centre in association with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bangalore, at taluk centres.  He also demanded the state government to release `86 crore to complete the work of the hospital.first published:August 20, 2012, 10:10 ISTlast updated:August 20, 2012, 10:10 IST
