HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed energy officials to work out long and short term plans to fulfil the soaring power demand in the state, in a meeting held at the Secretarait on Wednesday.
He further directed energy and irrigation sectors to maximise hydel power. On Tuesday, power demand of 247 million units (mu) was successfully met.About 65 mu of hydel power is being generated every day due to copious rain.At the meeting, the chief minister urged officials to tie up for power purchases while anticipating shortage of power next summer. Steps should also be taken to cope up with the high energy demands in advance since demand from agriculture sector would be at its peak coinciding with the students' examinations during summer. With regard to free power supply to agriculture sector, the chief minister expressed the need to put all details online. He also wants to set up call centre facility to facilitate farmers to inform about incidents like burning of transformers etc.
