Man slits wifes throat, does it to self

BHUBANESWAR: In a bizarre incident, a 23-year-old youth slit his wife’s throat and attempted to end his life in an identical fashion in Unit II area of the City on Monday afternoon. Twenty-one-year old Jayashree Reddy and her husband K Ramesh Reddy were rushed to Capital Hospital in a critical state. While Jayashree’s condition is stated to be better, Ramesh is still battling for life. The incident occurred in Jayashree’s father’s residential quarters. There was no one at home when the youth attempted the bizarre act. Marital disputes between the two is believed to be the reason. Ramesh and Jayashree had married two years ago, police said. The couple, which belonged to Berhampur, were staying in Hyderabad for sometime before moving back to the State. Jayashree was staying with her father who is a driver with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority. Preliminary investigation suggested that Ramesh’s family had not accepted the marriage whereas it was Jayashree’s father who had solemnised it. For the past couple of months, the couple probably had several fights which had prompted Jayashree to shift to her father’s place. On Monday, the two were alone in the house and fought again. While police suspect that the girl might have asked her husband to leave, the emotionally-charged Ramesh slit Jayashree’s throat before attempting the same on self. The neighbours noticed the incident and alerted the police. A PCR van rushed the duo to Capital Hospital.
