Man kills wife at All Women Police Station

MADURAI : In a shocking cri­me of passion on the premises of an All Women Police Station at Vadipatti near here, a 57-year-old lorry driver sla­shed his wife with a sickle in a fit of rage, right before the eyes of police personnel on Sunday morning. The woman succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.The couple had been asked by the policewomen to come in for a session of counselling as Kannan had refused to hand over custody of the couple’s three-year-old son to his estranged wife, Muthulakshmi.At the police station, when Muthulakshmi made some rude comment about Kannan, he drew out a sickle concealed in his clothes and slashed her with it, injuring her grievously. With blood oozing out, Muthulakshmi fainted. The women police personnel, who were paralyzed by shock for a few seconds, rushed Muthulakshmi to hospital, but she died on the way.Madurai district Superintendent of Police Asra Garg said Kannan attacked his wife almost immediately after the couple entered the station.  “It looks like he had come with a clear plan to murder her,” Garg told Express. Only three police personnel were presented in the station at the time of the incident. A duty guard was posted at the entrance of the station, while the station writer and another policewomen were present in two separate rooms, engaged in official work.The women sub-inspector Jeno, who was supposed to conduct the counselling for the couple, was on her way to the station. Kannan attacked his wife in the presence of duty guard police, said the SP. Immediately after the incident, Kannan gave the slip to the cops. A special team has been formed to nab Kannan.
