Maharashtra: 4,000 doctors threaten strike over police assault
CCTV footage showed a senior police inspector is seen slapping and grabbing a junior doctor for allegedly refusing to conduct urgent delivery of a pregnant woman.

Mumbai: Around 4,000 resident doctors across Maharashtra are threatening a strike to protest against the manhandling of a fellow resident doctor in Solapur Medical College by some policemen. The doctors have demanded immediate suspension of the accused policemen.

In the CCTV footage accessed by CNN-IBN, a senior police inspector is seen slapping and grabbing a junior doctor by the neck.

The police claim the young surgeon, Prashant Patil, refused to conduct urgent delivery of a pregnant woman.

The doctor has, however, claimed that the woman was not in danger when she was brought to him. Patil also said that he was not experienced for the task as he was a surgery student and had advised them to take her to the delivery ward.
