After spending the day watching the magnificent Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path, French President Emmanuel Macron was seen enjoying sufi music at Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah on Friday evening.

The French leader, who was invited by India as the chief guest at the 75th Republic Day celebrations, reached the shrine at around 9:30 pm. He first offered prayers there and then spent some time listening to the magical Qawwali at the 700-year-old Dargah.

The dargah is the mausoleum of the famous Sufi Nizamuddin Auliya and his disciple Amir Khusrau. The French President was briefed about the history and significance of the Dargah during his visit.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior dignitaries joined Macron.

In a video, which is now going viral on social media, the French leader and EAM Jaishankar can be seen in red shawls sitting and enjoying Sufi music at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia dargah, which is considered the nerve centre of Sufi culture in India.

Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu received her French counterpart Macron at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour after the Republic Day celebrations.

Welcoming President Macron, she said the two countries’ leaders being guests of honour in each other’s successive National Day parade and celebrations, is a historic moment, and “a symbol of the depth of our friendship and the strength of our partnership”, PTI reported.

Macron on Friday watched the grand military parade and the cultural performances during India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations at the majestic Kartavya Path.

During his visit, India and France established a defence industrial partnership roadmap that would provide for the co-development and co-production of key military hardware and platforms and facilitate technology collaboration in a range of areas including space, land warfare, cyberspace and artificial intelligence.
