Sitting Shiv Sena MP Anandrao Adsul and AAP candidate Bhavana Bhavesh Wasnik on Thursday filed their nomination papers from Amravati Lok Sabha constituency.
Adsul, who was embroiled in a controversy with NCP rival and actor Navneet Kaur Rana, took out a rally from Irwin square where he garlanded the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Accompanied by party's district unit president Sanjay Band, ex-MP Anant Gudhe, BJP MLC Pravin Potey and scores of Shiv Sena, BJP and RPI(A) workers, Adsul drove to the collectorate in an open gypsy to file his papers.
Emerging from the collector's cabin after filing his papers, Adsul expressed confidence that he will win the polls by a margin double of what he had secured in last elections.
"My fight is with RPI(Gawai)," he stated in reply to a question from reporters, and avoided reference to NCP or its candidate Navneet Rana, who had registered a complaint against him earlier this week.
Police had on Monday registered a case against Adsul and two of his supporters under the SC/ST Act and for other offences on a complaint filed Rana, who had alleged that during a programme for a Marathi news channel, on which rival candidates were supposed to debate inside a bus,Adsul allegedly lost his cool and made casteist remarks against her.
Rana, who had filed her nomination on Wednesday, would file another set of nomination papers on Friday, NCP sources said. Meanwhile, AAP candidate Bhavana Wasnik also filed her nomination papers before Collector Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal this afternoon.
Prof Wasnik, who teaches Home Economics at Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Amravati but is currently working with Department of Home Economics at Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University in connection with her research work, took out a rally from her party's office in Kalyan Nagar.
