New Delhi: Northeast Delhi constituency, where sitting Congress MP JP Agarwal, BJP's Manoj Tiwari and AAP's Anand Kumar are in the fray, recorded the highest voter turn out among the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital at 67.08 per cent.
Chandni Chowk recorded the second highest voter turnout at 66.88 per cent. Sitting MP from the constituency and Union Minister Kapil Sibal is facing a tough fight from BJP's Harsh Vardhan and journalist-turn-politician Ashutosh of AAP in his bid to retain the seat for the third time.
East Delhi and New Delhi constituencies also recorded a high turn out at 65.59 per cent and 65.03 per cent respectively. West Delhi stood at 65.64 per cent, South Delhi at 62.67 per cent and Northwest Delhi at 61.38 per cent.
Bettering the 2009 turnout by an impressive 12 per cent, the national capital recorded around 64 per cent overall polling percentage.
In 2009 LS polls, the overall voting percentage was recorded at 52.3 per cent, which had increased to 66 per cent in the 2013 Delhi assembly election in December 2013. The highest voter turnout of 71.3 in Delhi was recorded in the LS poll held after the Emergency was lifted in 1977.
