Kookaburra may sue MCC

London: Kookaburra, a family business from Northamptonshire which makes the controversial bat used by Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, is contemplating legal action against MCC.

Nine days ago the MCC ruled that the bat breaches cricket's laws because it has a graphite strip on the back of the blade.

Kookaburra says the strip is to prevent cracks in the back of the bat and has been tested to ensure it has no impact on its performance.

"We have been talking to our legal people. We do need some clarity from the MCC over exactly why they think the bat is illegal," Kenton Elliot, the marketing manager of Kookaburra said.

The bat has been deemed illegal only in international fixtures, and the firm is concerned that the MCC's decision will damage sales to recreational cricketers.
