Keralite killed as car hits tree

COIMBATORE: A 22-year-old man was killed after the car in which he was travelling hit a roadside tree near Madukkarai in the wee hours of Monday.According to police, the deceased S Ranjith of Kerala, was travelling in the car along with four of his friends when the accident took place around 1.30 a.m. The car was driven by Ranjith’s friend Sanoop, a college student.Police said speeding was the reason for the accident. “The car must have been driven at high speeds to have such a high-impact crash. It had moved few feet away from the road before colliding with the tree,” said sub-inspector Sivasami. In the impact, all the five passengers in the car suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital. However, Ranjith died within a few hours.Ranjith had completed his studies in a college here and was working in a private concern while the rest were studying in private colleges. Madukkarai police have registered a case and are investigating.
