Breaking away from the infamous tradition, a would-be bride stood up to demands of dowry and called off her wedding. Remya Ramachandran from Thrissur claims that the groom's family had assured that they will not seek dowry but later did not keep their word. They sought 50 sovereign and Rs 5 lakh after the couple's engagement.
Refusing to concede to the demands, Remya decided to break away from the wedding. Her post on Facebook declaring that she will not marry due to dowry demands has been shared over 1,000 times.
In another post, she thanked people who shared her post on Facebook for the support but also appealed that her words should not be used for personal humiliation rather should be used against the social norms.
"Thanks for your huge support . I'm overwhelmed . I just wanted to let my circle know about cancellation of marriage, never expected this to be a break. Meanwhile, I would like to explain that it was my declaration of a decision .Never had an intention to hurt anyone specifically. Please don't use my post for personalized humiliation ,instead use it against our social norms. People are ignorant for their own convenience and profit. Thank you once again," she said.
