Kerala HC Gives Conditional Permission for Thrissur Pooram
The Kerala High Court said that high decibel crackers and banned chemicals should not be used.

Kerala High Court on Thursday gave conditional permission for fireworks during Thrissur Pooram, the biggest temple festival in the state. The High Court said that the 2007 Supreme Court order on the same should be followed strictly and there should be restriction on sound.

The court said that high decibel crackers and banned chemicals should not be used.

Earlier on Thursday, Kerala government had said that it would approach the High Court to get its order relaxed for conducting the Thrissur Pooram, Kerala's biggest temple festival.

The organisers of the festival had also requested the High Court to allow the Thrissur Pooram.

Reacting to the development, Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the government had reviewed all arrangements for the festival. The minister also said that he, along with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, would be going to Thrissur on Friday to further review the situation.

The Kerala High Court had on Wednesday said that fireworks with sound will not be permitted between 6 pm to 6 am. The Wildlife conservation authority had also raised concerns about using elephants during the procession. Keeping the restrictions in mind, the organisers asserted that it will not be possible for them to carry on with the festival.
