New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to allow all licensed bars to employee women bartenders from Tuesday. The High Court has also asked the Restaurant Owners' Association to 'try' to adhere to the guidelines given by the government for the next three months.
The court further said that a review meeting will be held between the government and the association after three months, where the practicalities of the guidelines will be discussed.
After a plea filed by the Restaurant Owners' Association in the Karnataka High Court, the state government on Tuesday told the court that it had notified new rules for employing women in places where liquor is served.
Karnataka government informed the High Court that women bar employees should be at least 21 years old. The government also said that women working in bars and restaurants should be clad in trousers and full sleeved shirts.
Implementing censorship on the uniforms for the women bar employees, the government said that they have to wear T-shirts with or without a blazer or a salwar kameez with dupatta.
There will also be a bar on employing women, men or transgender for dancing or any other kind of 'exhibition', the government added.
