THOOTHUKUDI: Police released John Pandian, president of the Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, on Tuesday morning.Thoothukudi police had arrested him on Sunday when he was proceeding to pay homage to the late Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran on his death anniversary at Paramakudi, as the Ramnathapuram District Collector announced a ban order under Section 144 of Crpc to prevent him from entering the district. Consequently, the police intercepted John Pandian and detained him at Vallanadu Police shooting range.While 17 of his supporters were released on Monday, police detained John Pandian and four of his other party cadres, including Nellaiappan, State Coordinator, Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, Kannan, Duraipandian and Kali. Subsequently, John Pandian and others were released on Tuesday around 6.30 am.
