Jodhpur: Even as the sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram is getting murkier with each passing day, textbooks in some schools of Jodhpur are eulogising Asaram by calling him a great saint.
The textbooks supplied by a Delhi publisher and are a part of the prescribed Class 3 syllabus in some schools.
Parents are demanding strong action in the case. "How can a man who has been in jail for the past two years and has sexually assaulted a minor be portrayed as a saint? We demand strict action against these schools," said a parent.
Another parent added, "Well Asaram has done a lot saint-like work for the people. Whether he is guilty or not it is for the courts to decide. I cannot comment on that. But if the schools want to teach students about him being a saint that is their decision."
The Jodhpur's District Education Officer has assured a probe into it.
"I just got to know about the issue today and I will take swift action on Monday. I have already spoken to the Zilla Education officer and they will take necessary legal action. We will send notices to these schools."
Asaram is in jail since August 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. He was arrested after the 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint in August 20,2014 alleging that the self-styled godman sexually assaulted her at his ashram in Jodhpur.
