'Job quota inadequate for disabled'
Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh has said that the three per cent job reservation for the disabled is 'inadequate'.

New Delhi: Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh has said that the three per cent job reservation for the disabled is 'inadequate'.

On the subject of job reservation in the private sector he said that the corporate sector has taken up the task of sensitising its members on the need for employing the disabled. The core group set up by FICCI will help in further sensitising corporates in this subject.

Singh called for 'support of the society' to help disabled children receive inclusive education and said, "value suggestions made by the activists will be taken up while preparing the action plan for the disabled children".

On Friday, Singh gave away the 'NCPEDP-Shell Helen Keller Awards' to disabled persons on the eve of World Disability Day in Delhi.

Six individuals and four organisations, which have contributed to the cause of providing employment to the disabled, received the awards.

Harish Kumar P Kotian, Naseema Hurzuk, S Sankara Raman, Shanti Raghavan, Shyam Kedare and Rev. Valeriano Vaz were among those felicitated at this event.

Also three organisations, BPCL, Laser Soft Infosystems Ltd and Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind and ABB Limited received awards.
