Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and social activist Swami Agnivesh have been released from jail. They were held by police while marching towards Narbal where a youngster was killed on Saturday morning.
A youngster succumbed to his injuries after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire at protesters in Narbal after Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a strike following the arrest of separatist Masarat Alam. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
Agnivesh had joined Malik on Saturday morning in the 30-hour hunger strike against the proposal to create separate settlements for Kashmiri migrant Pandits.
The situation worsened after clashes between protesters and security erupted. The authorities have deployed police and CRPF personnel to tackle protests in the valley.
A complete shutdown is being observed across the Kashmir valley on Saturday on the call of Geelani.
All shops, businesses, government offices, schools and other establishments are closed and public transport is off the roads. Situation in several areas is stated to be tense.
