Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are involved in a turf war over interrogating Pakistani terrorist Usman Khan alias Mohammed Naved, who was captured alive recently.
J&K Police is reluctant to hand over the 20-year-old terrorist to NIA as it has already got permission to prosecute him, sources said. It is also not keen on handing over the Udhampur attack case to the investigating agency.
This comes after another controversy between Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) over the killing to Usman's accomplice Noman alias Nomi during the gunbattle in Udhampur.
Border Security Force (BSF) Director General DK Pathak on Thursday emphasised that it was his soldier Rocky who neutralised the attacker.
"There is no confusion on who killed the terrorist. BSF man neutralised the terrorist. Rocky fired heavily. He positioned himself in such a way that terrorist was shot," the BSF Director General had said.
According to sources, the operation was conducted jointly by the two forces. The first retaliatory fire was opened by a BSF guard onboard bus and later, CRPF troops located nearby joined them. Thereafter, local Rashtriya Rifles unit along with 4 Para troops were pressed in by the Army.
Though the considered decision is to give the credit to Village Defence Committee to send out the message that even local villagers are enough for such threats.
