Srinagar: Even as Jammu and Kashmir battles with the flood, bodies of 15 out of 16 people who were buried alive in a house due to a mudslide on Monday, have been recovered in Budgam.
As reported by Kashmir Pioneer, the search operation to recover the body of a ten-year-old Faisal is still underway. Official sources said two families, consisting of 16 members, including women and children, were buried alive when a house in which they were putting up came under a huge mudslide due to soil erosion at village Ladden Chadoora in Budgam district on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Centre said the flood situation in the state so far is not as grave as September 2014 but authorities are on alert to deal with any situation.
"Situation is not as grave as last time. But we are fully alert and if required we will send more assistance," Home Minister Rajnath Singh said. The Home Minister held a telephonic conversation with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who gave him a detailed briefing about the flood situation in the state.
Evacuations are underway from the low lying areas as weather forecasters have predicted further downpours in the region. More than 320 families have been moved to safer places in Kashmir valley.
Promising all help, the central government granted Rs 200 crore as immediate relief as Prime Minister Narendra Modi rushed union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to Kashmir for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and coordinate with state authorities with regard to the requirements.
While making the announcement about Centre's grant, Mufti Sayeed said in the Assembly that the state government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for Kashmir and Rs 10 crore for Jammu region which also has been affected by flood.
Jammu and Kashmir was hit by devastating floods just seven months ago in September 2014. Over 300 people had died and tens of thousands left homeless and property worth hundreds of crores damaged in unprecedented floods in the state in 2014.
