KOZHIKODE: The District Administration has deported controversial British-born Jewish writer Susan Nathan to her motherland, Israel on Wednesday. As part of the execution of the High Court order, Nadakkavu police on Wednesday transferred her to Mumbai and from there she will be sent to Tel Aviv via Oman on Thursday morning, said police officials.Nadakkavu police on Wednesday took Nathan into custody from her rented apartment near West Hill around 9 am. From there, she was taken to Calicut International Airport at Karipur, and sent in a flight to Mumbai at 1.50pm. “She will be deported to her native land in a flight at 5.15 am on Thursday,” said a police official with the Nadakkavu police.District Collector K V Mohan Kumar said that the district administration had passed Rs 38,500 from the miscellaneous fund of the Collector for meeting the expenses for deportation on Tuesday. After receiving the fund, a team from Nadakkavu police headed by Circle Inspector in-charge on Wednesday reached the rented apartment and executed the deportation order.Earlier, 63-year-old British-born Jewish writer had lodged an appeal before the Supreme Court through her counsel Manjeri Sunder Raj to dismiss the deportation order of the High Court citing her right to stay here. After the expiry of visa, Nathan stayed here on X-visa and that too expired on February 21. The district administration had sent a detailed report to the Home Department, seeking the allotment of the amount for the travel expenses to deport Susan to Israel, where she had been residing before coming to Kozhikode on October 14, 2009. Earlier, the state government informed the High Court that Nathan had close connections with Islamic extremist groups like the banned outfits SIMI and NDF. For this reason, High Court pronounced the deportation order on March 16.The Nadakkavu Police registered a case against Susan on February 27 for violating the provisions of the Foreigners Act. However, Manjeri Sunder Raj, counsel of Nathan, said she would continue her legal battle for residing here.  “As the action by the district administration is a denial of fundamental rights of Nathan, we hope that she would come to Kozhikode at government expense later,” he added.
