New Delhi: In a new twist, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday claimed that Netaji Subhash Chandra Medical College Dean Dr Arun Sharma had given 200 pages of documents related to the Vyapam scam to the Special Task Force (STF) probing the case just two days ago.
Targeting the Madhya Pardesh government, Digvijaya said, "I don't trust the viscera sample to be tested in the hospitals of MP and rest of India. It should be brought to AIIMS for testing under a senior doctor under camera surveillance."
Sharma, the dean of a medical college in Jabalpur and suspected of having links to some accused in the Vyapam scam, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Delhi hotel on Sunday.
But police has so far ruled out any foulplay. Delhi police said Sharma's family informed them that he had a heart ailment. A bottle of wine was also found in the room.
Sharma was also the chairman of the committee appointed by Madhya Pradesh government to investigate fake doctors appointed through Vyapam. Sharma, dean of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur, had asked the hotel staff for a wake up call on Sunday morning. However, when there was no response to the staff's call, the hotel staff entered the room using a duplicate key and found his body.
He is the second dean of the medical college who has died under mysterious circumstances. His predecessor DK Sakale was found dead in July, 2014 with 90 per cent burns.
The Vyapam scam has become a major political controversy with numerous witnesses and accused dying under mysterious circumstances. The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam relates to irregularities in admission in state-run medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.
Alleged financial and administrative irregularities, including unauthorised disposal of application forms, worth crores of rupees by the MPPEB have been pointed out in an audit report.
The MPPEB conducts entrance and recruitment tests for admission in medical and engineering courses, and selection in certain government services, among others.
It has been alleged that corrupt officials at the board took money to compromise the examination and recruitment for several professional courses. These courses include pre-engineering, pre-medical, MCA, teaching among others.
