Kochi: The recent crisis that has gripped the Malayalam film industry deepened on Tuesday with the Kerala Film Producers' Association (KFPA) deciding to stick to their decision not to produce movies until the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) took steps to curb the escalating production cost.
"We will not cooperate with FEFKA. They had violated the contract on daily wages. And they are not ready to take any steps to reduce production cost. We are not ready to go back on our stand," KFPA president Siyad Koker said.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Film Exhibitors' Federation is likely to withdraw its decision not to screen new Malayalam movies. A final decision in this regard is expected to be taken at the general body meeting of the Exhibitors' Association that will be held on November 19.
"The minister for cinema had already informed us that he will take a positive stand on the service charge issue if the exhibitors call off their strike. Hence, theatre owners may withdraw the strike after Saturday's general body meeting," said an office-bearer of the association.
Earlier, the exhibitors announced an indefinite strike from November 1 onwards, protesting against the decision by the government to scrap the service charges per ticket. Annoyed by that decision, the Kerala Film Distributors Association too had announced a strike last week.
