Paris: Igor Andreev pulled out of the French Open because of a knee injury, organizers said on Wednesday.
The 26th-ranked Andreev is the last player to have beaten French Open champion Rafael Nadal of Spain on clay - in April, 2005, in Valencia.
Nadal was in action later on Wednesday at the Rome Masters.
Andreev will be replaced in the main draw for the May 29-June 11 Roland Garros tournament by Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark, the French tennis federation said in a statement.
Andre Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion who turned 36 last Saturday, decided to skip the claycourt season and Albert Portas of Spain takes his place at Roland Garros.
In the women's draw, Serena Williams of the United States is suffering from a left knee injury and is replaced by Hana Sromova of the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile Conchita Martinez of Spain has retired from competition and countrywoman Arantxa Parra Santonja takes her place.
Organizers also said that wild cards have been attributed to Marc Gicquel and Michael Llodra of France in the men's draw; and Severine Bremond and Stephanie Cohen-Aloro of France in the women's.
The Grand Slam event runs from May 29-June 11.
