Information Commissioner order stayed

A division bench of the Madras High Court has stayed the operation of the orders of the TN State Information Commission directing the Public Information Officer (PIO) attached to the HC to furnish certain information relating to it to two applicants under the Right to Information Act.

The bench comprising Justices P Jyothimani and Justice M Duraiswamy granted the injunction while admitting two writ petitions from the High Court Registrar-General, on Tuesday.

Originally, K Elango of KK Nagar and A Venkatesh of MMDA Colony applied for information relating to recruitment of subordinate judges in the State and information relating to two district judges.  As the PIO did not furnish the information, the duo moved the TN Information Panel, by orders dated January 10 and March 7  directed the PIO to furnish the information to the applicants. Aggrieved, the RG filed the present writ petitions. Advocate S Haja Mohideen Gisthi submitted that the information sought for by the applicants clearly infringed on the internal administration of the HC.
