New Delhi: Music composer AR Rehman is back on top as Ru ba ru, from the film Rang de Basanti, bags the honour of 'song of the year 2006'.
In a poll conducted by CNN-IBN, Ru Ba Ru won hands down as it bagged 77,128 votes.
"I think it is all because of Rakeysh and Prasoon's efforts. It is a victory for all of us," Rehman said as he received the trophy.
The song Ya Ali, from the film Gangster, stood second with 28,491 votes. On the third spot with 3,348 votes was Chaand Sifarish, from the film Fanaa.
While the music for Ya Ali has been composed by Pritam, the duo of Jatin and Lalit are behind the success of Chaand Sifarish.
Speaking of the theme behind Ru Ba Ru, he said: "When we thought of doing a song, we wanted to do it on release from darkness. When these guys die, they are released from the darkness of the world."
Earlier, in an interview with CNN-IBN's Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand, Rehman said, "When we started with this film, what we decided to do was not to have anything which is preachy and going to bring people down."
"We wanted to go abstract and go counter point, like people and children are dying there and we have a happy soundtrack, which is Ru Ba Ru and going to the light and there is more positivity rather than going along with the film."
