New Delhi: India took a big step towards claiming the six-nation Under-21 invitation hockey tournament when they defeated title contenders Germany 3-2 in a thrilling encounter in Gniezno, Poland, on Saturday.
After Raghunath had given India the lead in the 12th minute by converting their second penalty corner, the Germans came back with field goals in the 15th and 33rd minute to lead 2-1 at half-time.
Raghunath restored parity in the 44th minute when he converted the fifth penalty corner awarded to the Indian juniors and V Raja scored the winner through a field goal in the 68th minute.
This was India's fourth straight victory in the competition and they face the hosts Poland in their last league match on Sunday.
