Soundarya, one of Geetha’s students, said that the students will never find another teacher like her. Referring to her as one of the family members, she said that the teacher taught us for 30 years and has now been suddenly transferred out of our village. Soundarya said that this development has left them grief-struck but they will have to follow the rules.

For the students, Geetha was not just a physical education teacher. Instead, she helped many of the female students resolve their personal issues as well. In this way, she was not only a teacher for the students but a mother, friend and sister to them. Many of the students she taught are now married and their children have also learnt from her. Geetha, who regularly comes and goes from Dharwad, has five more years of service left. Due to health problems, she was not able to run and thus inevitably got transferred to another school.

According to Geetha, “My desire is to serve five years in this school. But I got transferred due to this illness. The transfer has to be accepted even if it is unintentional. I am eternally grateful for the love of the children and the villagers.”
